Messy Church
Messy Church normally runs on the first Sunday of the month between 3-5pm at The Hub (former St. Mary's Parish Hall) on Norton Green near the duck pond.
What is Messy Church?
- Messy church is a church for children and adults to enjoy together.
- It's primarily for people who don't belong to another form of church already or who struggle with 'conventional' church.
- It's all age but we ask that children are accompanied by an adult.
-
It's great fun with lots to do together usually round a central theme.
-
Its aim is to introduce Jesus, to give an opportunity to encounter him and to grow closer to him.
-
Its values are those of hospitality, creativity and celebration.
Does it cost to come to Messy Church?
No, Messy Church is free though we have an offering pig for anyone who wants to help with running costs but there is no obligation to give.
What do we do in Messy Church?
On arrival you will be welcomed by our Messy Church 'grand parents' (Colin and Helen are great at this!) and there are usually a range of 7 or so crafts or creative projects to do or get involved in. Some of these are age related and others for anyone, and you can move from one table to the next or just stay with one you particulary enjoy. They all relate to the theme for the day. We find that mums, dads, grand-parents and carers also love to get involved. After about 45 minutes we have a time together when we may sing, tell Bible or related stories, play a game and pray together using creative ideas to help us. We then have a main meal together that the catering team prepare for us. There is always a central theme that we follow and it centres round Jesus and enables us to explore the Christian faith together through fun, celebration and creativitiy. Altogether Messy Church lasts about 2 hours and at special times of the year we may do something quite different.
You can see some photos of Messy Church by exploring the Photo Gallery and we'll add more as the months pass.
